Ita-Giwa Rallies Tuface, Akindele For Children Of Bakassi

It has been a season of struggles for celebrity politician, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa. The ordeals of Bakassi people, who have been turned refugees by the loss of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon, has turned her into an activist, fighting the cause of her community.

But while the struggle continues, life must go on. The ebulliently social, never-say-old woman is still keeping faith with her other passions. Among this is herChildren of Bakassi, a project through which her Florence Ita-Giwa Foundation ministers to the needs of deprived young ones. She is again set to celebrate the kids at a programme that promises music, comedy, dance and more.

Among artistes expected at the event holding on Sunday at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos are award-winning singer, Tuface, and popular actress, Funke Akindele, who, according to Ita-Giwa, have always been her friends.

On the essence of the programme tagged, “Middle East African Fusion”, which will also feature models, she notes that she started it eight years ago because she was motivated to take the children to fulfilling levels. She had sent 10 of the children to school then.

Ita-Giwa says, “I am preparing them for the world so that at the end of the day, they have the opportunity to rise to any level in this country. Ten of these children are in elite schools. Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State also has 15 children.

The grown ones are preparing to got to the university level. Bakassi children need proper education. We love children, they performed well in Calabar Carnival. It‘s my intention to pick another 10 —  to train them, to know more about God, and to know more about humility and the fear of God.”
