Police Defuse Bomb At Gombe university

The police yesterday successfully detonated a bomb and many improvised explosive devices planted at Gombe State University (GSU).
A witness who spoke to newsmen said the bomb was concealed in a polythene bag and was planted between a faculty block and the administrative building of the university. The explosive devices were found hidden in various locations.
Witnesses said that as soon as the first explosive was discovered, frightened workers and students began to withdraw to safer locations.
But as soon as more discoveries were made panic began to set in and many moved out of the school to the adjoining community.

When security agencies arrived they blocked all roads leading to the university and set out to comb the premises for bombs and other explosives.
The police public relations officer (PPRO), Gombe state command, DSP Fwaji B Attajiri confirmed the story adding that they were discovered in time before they exploded.
He said the anti bomb squad moved the devices into a valley outside the university where they safely detonated them one after the other saying that no one was harmed.
Mr Fwaji advised residents to go about their businesses saying the security agencies had brought the situation under control.
Our correspondent gathered that shortly after the incident police men raided areas around the university and arrested dozens of suspects.
